Every year tens of thousands of lives are lost in transportation related accidents in the U.S. alone. That number climbs to 1.3 million on a global basis. In addition, between 20-50 million people suffer non-fatal, yet life-changing injuries. There are over 2.3 million patient visits to U.S. emergency rooms each year and a cost of $240 billion in terms of medical and work-related losses. UMTRI’s dedicated faculty and research staff are committed to dramatically reducing fatalities and injuries while improving mobility for all.
