UMTRI IS HIRING!
The University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) invites applications for full-time, non-tenure research faculty positions to conduct transportation safety research in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. We are accepting applications for all ranks including Research Scientist-Associate, Research Scientist/Assistant, and Research Scientist. The rank of the selected candidate will depend upon the candidate’s qualifications.
Open Positions:
Research Scientist-Associate/Research Scientist/Assistant-Research Scientist in UMTRI’s Center for the Management of Information for Safe and Sustainable Transportation (CMISST).
The CMISST group focuses on data analysis to answer a wide variety of questions about transportation safety and mobility. Therefore, the successful candidate will have interests in crash data analysis and social behavioral aspects of roadway safety.
Research Scientist- Associate/Research Scientist/Assistant- Research Scientist in UMTRI’s Behavioral Sciences Group (BSG).
BSG works to enhance safe mobility for all ages by deepening our understanding of the social and behavioral issues important to transportation. Using innovative research approaches, the group seeks to identify and examine the effects of social and behavioral factors on driving-related outcomes, including crashes, near crashes, and risky-driving behaviors, as well as potentially protective behaviors such as the use of advanced driver assistance system technologies. The group also works to develop and/or evaluate programs, policies, and practices intended to reduce high-risk behaviors and promote safe driving and use of other transportation options.
Research Scientist/Associate Research Scientist/Assistant Research Scientist in UMTRI’s Biosciences Group. The Biosciences Group at UMTRI, conducts research on the biomechanics of motor vehicle occupants as it relates to occupant injuries, crash protection, and occupant accommodation. Biosciences researchers use state-of-the-art laboratory testing facilities, computer modeling, and data analysis techniques to conduct a wide range of research.
Research Professor/Research Associate Professor in UMTRI’s Biosciences Group. The University of Michigan has established two research faculty tracks: Research Scientist and Research Professor. While this position is currently for the Research Professor track, it is important to note that there are many possible trajectories for career promotion at UMTRI, including crossing from one track to the other.
Associate Research Scientist or Research Scientist in UMTRI’s Human Factors Group. The Human Factors Group is especially interested in individuals who have knowledge, interests, and broad experience in Human Factors Engineering. Individuals being considered for senior level faculty positions must be able to demonstrate exceptional leadership skills and a commitment to scientific excellence.
