UMTRI is a multidisciplinary, applied research organization.  With annual expenditures between $15-20M, we are one of the largest research institutes at U-M.  We have produced 1,000’s of studies and publications, and have developed research methods in anthropometry, simulation, measurement, and verification.  UMTRI has one of the largest, most efficient, and high-quality naturalistic datasets in the industry, including the largest set of connect vehicle research data in the world.

We have transformed occupant restraint systems, child restraint systems, safety belts, airbags and conducted hundreds of crash analysis.

We have shaped modern transportation through vehicle systems, connectivity, automation, and infrastructure.

We have engaged people throughout life-stages, capabilities, and requirements in transportation.

Our research informs and influences practices, procedures, and policy on the state and national level.
