Multidisciplinary Design Program (MDP)
The Multidisciplinary Design Program provides 800+ experiential (“learn by doing”) opportunities for students from across the university every year. Students apply what they learn in class to engineering design challenges, gain technical and professional skills necessary to succeed in engineering research or industrial settings, and experience how multiple disciplines collaborate within a team. The program is open to undergraduate and graduate students who earn academic credit for being on a team. About 25% of participants are from non-engineering disciplines.
Two teams are currently being led by UMTRI faculty:
Adaptive Designs for Human Safety: Developing Parametric Human Models to Represent a Diverse Population, Led by Jingwen Hu, PhD and Monica Jones, PhD
Real-time Driving Experience Simulator, Led by Paul A. Green, PhD
